Erie Canal Day 8 (7/14/19)


Today we finished our 8 day, nearly 400 mile journey as we rode into Albany.  Along the way we visited the Cohoes Falls and the Troy Waterfront Farmers Market. Thanks for following my journey.  



Erie Canal Day 7 (7/13/19)


Today we rode 49 miles from Canajoharie to Schenectady.  We encountered an Amish family selling baked goods along the way.  Here are some video highlights of today’s ride.

Erie Canal Day 6 (7/12/19)


Today we rode 63 miles from Rome to Canajoharie NY.  We had a couple of hours of rain this morning and rode on a lot of highway roads. We visited Lock 17 - an engineering marvel.  Here is some history. At the end of the ride, we finished with an extremely steep hill. Here are some video highlights.

Erie Canal Day 5 (7/11/19)


Today we rode 50 miles from Syracuse to Rome. Lots of great sites along the way including a barbershop singing group. We visited several museums and ended at Fort Stanwix state park.  Here is some video of today’s ride.

Erie Canal Day 4 (7/10/19)


Today was a significant milestone. We crossed the halfway point in Camillus NY.  We had a comfortable 41 mile ride to Syracuse.  Today’s ride was dedicated to my CG classmate Reese Orange as we ended in Syracuse.  Upon arrival, I had a nice surprise when I met up with my CG classmate Jim Incognito.  Here’s a video recap of today’s happenings.

Erie Canal Day 3 (7/9/19)


Today was another great day of riding.  We rode 52 miles from Fairport and had several fun stops in small towns along the way to Seneca Falls. We visited several working locks and arrived in camp around 3pm.  In Seneca Falls, we visited the “It’s A Wonderful Life” museum which celebrates the story inspired by booklet The Greatest Gift, which Philip Van Doren Stern wrote in 1939, and the town of Seneca Falls.  Here are some video highlights. 





Erie Canal Day 2 (7/8/19)


Sorry for the delayed post.  Today (7/8/19) we rode 57 miles from Albion to Fairport.  We saw several bridge raising along the way.  Here are some video highlights.

Erie Canal Day 1 (7/7/19)


Today, after an amazing breakfast in Buffalo, we rode 54 miles to Albion.  While in Lockport, we had a chance to see working canal locks in action.  We rode into a 10-15 knot headwind most of the day which made it a much tougher ride. Here are some video highlights.
